Broadband Slows Down by 50%
More than 50 per cent of broadband users in Britain are receiving less than half the speed promised by their providers, according to a report from communications watchdog, Ofcom. Customers who use their connection at the peak time of 8pm – 10pm or who live the furthest away from the telephone exchange receive a typical speed of 3.9Mbps. The report, which involved 60 million broadband performance tests in 1,600 homes found that the average broadband speed in the UK in April was 4.1Mbps, falling to 3.7Mbps at peak times.
