Government’s Broadband Plans for Internet Could Include Telephone Tax
Tax on phone lines could be introduced in an effort to try and extend the reach of super-fast broadband to the countryside outlined in The Digital Britain Report. The Digital Britain Report is the Government’s vision to ensure that the UK leads the way in the global digital economy. One of the key points in the report is for all homes to have broadband of at least 2MB by 2012. Lord Carter, the Communications minister, has defended the proposed tax introduction insisting it will raise up to £1.5billion to help pay for the next generation of super-fast internet networks boosting Britain’s digital infrastructure.
